About Us

Bennamann was founded with a clear purpose

Bennamann captures methane from waste and transform it into a clean, renewable fuel that powers the wider economy.

By turning waste into opportunity, we help farmers future-proof their businesses, protect the agricultural industry for generations to come, and play a vital role in the global fight against climate change.

Our Journey

Bennamann was founded in 2011 by Dr. Chris Mann after discovering the energy potential of methane from decomposing grass. They found that one square metre of grass holds energy equivalent to a litre of petrol.

The breakthrough came when they partnered with dairy farmers, realizing that cows efficiently extract energy from grass, yet their manure still contains significant untapped methane. Natural cow digestion pre-breaks down the slurry, making methane capture even easier.

By harnessing fugitive methane, Bennamann reduces agriculture’s environmental impact. With methane having 84-87 times the warming effect of CO₂ over 20 years, every kilo captured offsets emissions and generates clean energy.

“As a physicist by training and having worked in the space industry, I never imagined I’d end up working with cow manure and its potential as a source of renewable energy. But a chance encounter with exploding bags of grass clippings in Florida, set me on a path that has led to what I believe is a transformative solution, not only for farmers, but also the environment.”
