Bennamann signs Climate Declaration
Bennamann recently signed the UK AD and Biogas Industry Climate Declaration which was delivered to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson by the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association on June 24th 2021.
The full declaration can be read here and of particular note is the call for Government and authorities in cities, regions and devolved nations of the UK to support:
- Anaerobic Digestion (AD) in agriculture, through the introduction of a tariff premium for the treatment of manures and slurries through AD and a renewable biofertiliser obligation;
- the use of biomethane in transport, through its recognition as a leading low-carbon fuel to decarbonise HGV operations, and better incentives to promote investment in the development of new biomethane plants for transport and refuelling infrastructure;
- small businesses and community projects in developing a circular economy, using AD to transform local waste into local heat and power;
- key aspects of the industry that would deliver a step change in performance, reducing or eliminating the need for financial support for the sector and improving its international competitiveness.
The Declaration also importantly notes that methane emissions from organic wastes (such as manure slurries) are over 80 times more harmful as greenhouse gasses than carbon dioxide (CO2) and technology such as ours has a substantial potential to mitigate the climate crisis society is facing.
